Mosquito control uses different treatment methods to manage adult mosquitoes as well as mosquito larvae and pupae developing in water. The appropriate treatment depends on the size of the affected area, the surrounding environment and the location of mosquito activity.

Treatment Methods for Adult Mosquitoes and Larvae

Each mosquito-control method serves a different purpose, from treating flying adults to controlling larvae in stagnant water and potential breeding locations.

Fine insecticide mist for adult mosquito control

Fogging

Mosquito fogging releases a fine insecticide mist into targeted environments to control adult mosquitoes. The treatment disperses small droplets through the air, allowing the active ingredient to contact mosquitoes while they are flying or resting nearby.

Fogging is generally most effective during dawn and dusk when mosquito activity is higher. Temperature, humidity and wind conditions may affect the movement and effectiveness of the treatment.

Fine water-based droplets for wide-area mosquito treatment

Water-Based ULV Misting

Ultra-Low Volume misting converts a specialised water-based treatment solution into very fine droplets. These droplets can be dispersed across open or larger areas where mosquito breeding locations may be difficult to identify.

ULV equipment uses a relatively small quantity of pesticide while distributing the treatment over the target area. The fine droplets remain airborne temporarily to contact active adult mosquitoes.

Unauthorised persons should remain outside the treated area for at least four hours after treatment.

Treatment for mosquito larvae and pupae in water

Larviciding

Larviciding targets mosquito larvae and pupae before they can develop into flying adults. Microbial or chemical larvicides are applied to suitable water bodies, stagnant water or containers where mosquito development is detected.

Regular treatment of identified breeding locations helps interrupt the mosquito life cycle and reduce the number of adult mosquitoes emerging from the water.

Targeted application around mosquito resting and breeding areas

Spraying

Mosquito spraying applies insecticide to selected locations where mosquitoes are likely to rest, hide or reproduce. The treatment may be carried out during the day or at night depending on the environment and mosquito activity.

Night-time wide-area spraying may use ULV equipment to produce very small droplets. These droplets remain airborne briefly and contact adult mosquitoes while they are flying.
