WHAT IS A BIRDS?
Birds, while delightful in their natural habitats, can pose health risks and property damage when they invade homes or commercial properties. Let’s explore the dangers associated with bird droppings:

Health Risks of Bird Droppings:
  • Birds have been linked to over 60 different diseases, excluding the avian flu. These diseases can become airborne, transferring to humans who are in close proximity to the droppings.
  • Some notable bird-related diseases include:
  • a) Histoplasmosis: A respiratory disease caused by a fungus that grows in old bird droppings. It can be fatal, especially for immunocompromised individuals.
    b) Candidiasis: A yeast or fungal infection spread by pigeons. It can affect various body systems and has led to deaths.
    c) Cryptococcosis: Caused by a yeast found in birds’ intestinal tracts. Inhaling the organism can lead to infection.
    c) Psittacosis: Caused by a bacterium inhaled from bird droppings. It can develop into pneumonia.
    d) St. Louis Encephalitis: An inflammation of the nervous system, sometimes leading to paralysis or coma. It spreads from mosquitoes that have fed on infected birds.

    Property Damage from Bird Droppings:
  • Bird droppings contain uric acid with a pH level of around 3.5 to 4. This acid can corrode various building materials.
  • Materials vulnerable to damage include tar-based roofing, which can develop leaks due to the corrosive nature of bird droppings.

  • To protect both health and property, it’s essential to deter birds from roosting in and around your premises. Regular cleaning, bird-proofing measures, and professional assistance can help mitigate these risks.
